With his new album "Gumbo Man" (Burning Disk, release date March 27, 2001), Wharton serves up his bluesy treatise on sex, drugs, rock& roll, technology, religion, and a whole lot of food. Though it's a studio album, "Gumbo Man" captures the shot-from-the-hip "Live" sound for which the Sauce Boss is famous.
Camera crews from CNN and EXTRA sent film crews to Sauce Boss extravaganzas, airing segments internationally the week of July 2-8, 2000. Food Network's series 'Extreme Cuisine" also visited the Sauce Boss on location in New York in 1999.
NPR's "All Things Considered" aired Bill Wharton's new song "Election Blues" on the day George Bush was declared president. Visit a special page on NPR's website
Jimmy Buffett sings about the Sauce Boss in his recent "I Will Play for Gumbo" song. And Parrotheads all over the country are bringing the Sauce Boss for "playin' and a' swayin' with the gumbo" at their events. The Sauce Boss played to packed houses every night in Key West for the 2000 Parrothead national convention, "Meeting of the Minds". Bill Wharton's "Let the Big Dog Eat" and "Great Big Fanny" appeared on the Jimmy Buffett compilation album "Margaritaville Cafe Late Night Menu".
